This is an historical account of the first Christian Bible, the Septuagint or LXX, meaning |Seventy.| This is the Bible Jesus read. It was the only Bible in the Christian era, and it is the Holy Book that prophesied of the coming of Jesus. Jesus was named in The Law and the Prophets, as the LXX is called, as the successor of Moses and as the High Priest and Savior. The name Joshua did not not appear in the ancient Hebrew Scriptures or the Greek translation of these Scriptures. The translation of the LXX was made about 300 years before the birth of Jesus and was, in fact, totally accepted by the Israelites, Judeans, and Hebrews. Indeed, the LXX replaced the Hebrew scrolls so successfully and completely that the ancient scrolls fell into disuse. This is also the story of the men who defined Christian doctrine and ethics during the first 300 years following the crucifixion of Jesus. Their writings are quoted extensively in order that the reader may fully appreciate the depth of their dedication, devotion and intelligence. The writings of Origen, Clement of Alexandria, and Lactantius are quoted at length, and a full description of the beliefs of various Essene Sects is provided by Bishop Hippolytus (c. 170 AD), including those of the Pharisee and Sadducee. In this chapter on the Essene sects, there are quotations from those who have interpreted the Qumran Dead Sea scrolls. The relevance of these Dead Sea writings on early Christianity is made clear, especially as the writings pertain to the life of Jesus. This will give the reader a new perspective on this modern mystery. The reader will also learn of the political intrigues that plagued the Roman Empire during the 300 years before the Nicene Council. The scenes of persecution that took place in the arenas and stadiums are described by those early Christians who were eye witnesses to these events. And amid all the turmoil of the times, the Scriptures of the Septuagint and, later, of the New Testament were guarded and remained intact. The LXX was the basis of all doctrine because these early Fathers of the one Church knew that the Scriptures were Divine, and that the Word was God. The reader will also learn about today's scientists, astronomers, and archeologists who have provided indisputable evidence that the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is a correct and detailed history of the Hebrews as well as a history of the Christian era. The Star of Bethlehem was over the manger in 5 BC. This is an undisputed fact. Some of the travels of the Apostle Paul have been verified as to the time of year and season. Even a Biblical scholar will be amazed to learn that the writings of Luke are shown to be true right down to the least detail. And the accuracy of the Septuagint writings are also explored by science with astounding results. There is a reason why Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt. Most importantly, however, the reader will discover why the men and women of early Christianity willingly confessed the name of Jesus under all circumstances, and it wasn't because they were uneducated peasants. Just the opposite is true. The school of Christian teaching established by the Apostle Mark and Apollos in Alexandria, Egypt, was an intellectual center that has never been excelled or repeated. Even the monks of Mount Athos in Greece can't compete with the inspired teachers of Alexandria who formed the doctrine from the sacred Scriptures of the LXX.This book is an acknowledgement of the work of these distinguished men who were intelligent, loyal, kind, and good with the reason and logic that surpassed that of a Plato or Aristotle. The reader will also learn about the earliest Bibles, including current translations of the Septuagint that delete references to the name of Jesus and change or delete prophecies that pertain to Jesus. This bookis a journey of discovery that is fundamental to a real understanding of Christianity, not just then, but now.
